Challenge questions

The practical bits worth settling before the camera comes out.

Can a small account start a challenge?

Yes. Begin with a specific group and a clear, enjoyable action. Test with willing collaborators; broad reach is not required for a useful experiment. Start with the invitation, not a follower target.

How do I know whether a trend fits?

Check the core action, participation effort, audience interest and permissions. Repeated appearances in your feed alone do not establish a good fit. Our trend field note explains how to compare examples without treating them as a forecast.

Do I need permission to copy a trend?

A general idea differs from a specific recording or other protected material. Check permissions for footage, music and artwork, and obtain appropriate participant consent. Establish the origin where possible and keep clear credit; attribution alone does not grant usage rights.

Can I use the same music on every platform?

Do not assume so. Check the track licence and each platform’s terms for the intended use, especially for advertising and cross-platform reposting. Keep evidence of the permission or licence you relied on.

How should we share credit?

Agree before filming. Identify who developed, recorded, edited and performed the work, and make credits clear in the final post. Credit does not replace permission. Put expected reuse and paid promotion in your collaboration agreement too.

What if nobody joins?

Ask whether the prompt was understandable, relevant and easy enough to try. Revise or retire it without pressuring your audience. A quiet test may still reveal a confusing instruction or a participation barrier you can fix.

What counts as a useful result?

Clearer instructions, original variations, respectful participation and a willing future collaborator can all be useful results. Views are only one observation. Choose a question before publishing so your review is not just a search for a flattering number.

What if a participant changes their mind?

Listen privately and review options such as editing, removing your upload or stopping reuse. Be honest that you cannot guarantee removal of copies controlled by others. Plan this conversation before publication with the participation care guide.

Does the contact tool send my message?

No. It creates a local preview and lets you copy or download plain text. You choose whether to send it through your own email service. Open the message tool and avoid including sensitive information.
